NEW DELHI: The body of the Indian Navy pilot has been found missing since his Mig-29K crashed in the Arabian Sea.
The body of Commander Nishant Singh was found on the seabed 70 meters underwater, 30 miles off the coast of Goa, after an extensive search.
The aircraft had crashed on November 26. The plane of Russian origin had taken off from the INS Vikramaditya aircraft carrier and fell around 5 in the afternoon.
Singh’s copilot had managed to eject the aircraft safely and was rescued. However, an extensive search operation was unable to trace Singh, although some wreckage of the aircraft was found a few days later.
It was the fourth MiG-29K accident since January 2018. India acquired 45 of these supersonic fighters for $ 2 billion from Russia to operate from INS Vikramaditya, which was installed in November 2013 under a separate $ 2.33 thousand deal. millions.
The MiG-29K is an all-weather, carrier-based multi-role fighter jet developed by the Russian aerospace company Mikoyan (MiG).
INS Vikramaditya was part of the second phase of the Malabar exercise that involved the navies of India, the United States, Australia and Japan. The MIG-29K fleet aboard the aircraft carrier also participated in the naval mega drill that took place from 17 to 20 November.
