Hyderabad: TRS’s decision to feature underperforming incumbents has proven costly for the ruling party in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections. This error has caused the ruling party to lose the polls in 34 divisions.
Although the MLA and the Assembly’s constituency officers notified the party bosses of the bad records of the incumbent corporations, the ruling party leadership ignored their suggestions. As a result, 34 practicing corporations lost in the polls. Had the party eliminated them, analysts say the party could have played child’s play and won as many as 89 seats.
Of the 99 corporations in office, the ruling TRS had renamed 78 corporations and dropped 21 citing a bad response. Out of 78, only 44 companies won. Sources at TRS said officials had asked the high command to switch over to the remaining corporate functions, but the leadership ignored the suggestion.
The results were good in the divisions, where the leaders of the party and the MLA made changes. Vice President T. Padma Goud, who fought with the high command and switched four corporate incumbents in the Secunderabad constituency, helped the party win in all of those divisions.
Except for two MIM seats, Jubilee Hills MLA Maganti Gopinath has asked the high command to switch to four incumbent corporations and all won. By changing the acting corporations in the Miyapur and Hydernagar divisions, the party has emerged victorious in all divisions of the Serilingampally Assembly constituencies. Quthbullapur MLA KP Vivekananda succeeded in getting the party to eliminate the acting corporate of the Subhashnagar division and successfully won it. The western part of the city has played a vital role in helping TRS win 55 divisions in GHMC polls.
Similarly, suggestions were made to the high command to change the corporations in the constituencies of LB Nagar, Uppal, Musheerabad, Amberpet and Sanathnagar Assembly. However, the leadership ignored the suggestions and paid a heavy price by losing most of the divisions in the five constituencies.
Similarly, the MIM had renamed 44 incumbent corporations and of them six have lost the election. The party has traded four incumbent candidates and only one of them was defeated in GHMC polls. The BJP emerged victorious in 48 divisions by presenting new candidates.
