Kohli’s men win T20 series, beat Australia by six wickets

IND vs AUS 2nd T20 Result: Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer chased 37 runs from the final three overs as India defeated Australia by six wickets in the second T20I of the three-game series on Sunday here at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

With this victory, India gained an impregnable 2-0 lead in the three-game series. Batting first, Australia once again piled up misery on the Indian bowlers and the team posted a total of 194 due to 58 and 46 hits from Matthew Wade and Steve Smith. No Indian bowler apart from T Natarajan was able to make his mark in the match and dropping catches did not help the visitor’s cause.

India managed to stay on track throughout the chase as Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli played 52 and 40 strokes respectively. In the final overs, Hardik (42 *) and Shreyas (12 *) managed to hit big shots to take the Men in Blue over the line for six wickets and two balls to spare.

Chasing 195, India got off to a fast start when starters Shikhar Dhawan and KL Rahul had 56 runs in the first five overs. However, it was Andrew Tye who provided much-needed breakthrough for Australia by firing Rahul (30) in the sixth over.

Skipper Kohli then joined Dhawan in the middle and the duo ran 39 runs for the second wicket, but during the period of this partnership the running speed dropped considerably and in trying to search for a shot put, Dhawan (52) ended up losing his window to Adam Zampa in 12th. Sanju Samson played a brief 15-run hit from 10 balls, but in trying to pick up the pace, he lost his ground to Mitchell Swepson, reducing India to 120/3 in the 14th.

With India needing 46 runs from the final overs, Daniel Sams landed Kohli’s key wicket (40) in the 16th over, pushing the visitors back. In the 18 over, Shreyas Iyer and Hardik Pandya managed to get 12 runs and as a result, the visitors needed 25 runs from the last two overs.

In the final, Pandya and Shreyas managed to get the job done and, as a result, India achieved a victory by six wickets.

Previously, Matthew Wade and Steve Smith played shots of 58 and 46 respectively to bring Australia’s total to 194/5 in the twenty assigned overs.

Sent to bat first, Australia got off to a fast start when starters Wade and D’Arcy Short made 47 runs within the first five overs. Looking for a breakthrough, Kohli introduced T Natarajan in attack, and the left arm did not disappoint by firing Short (9) in the fifth over.

Wade was looking for a big score, but a bad confusion in the middle with Steve Smith caused the left-handed hitter to be sent to the pavilion in the eighth, reducing Australia to 75/2. Glenn Maxwell then made it to the fold and joined Smith in the middle to put together a 45-run rapid fire stand for the third wicket. As soon as Australia began to gain the lead, Shardul Thakur fired Maxwell (22) in the 13th about reducing Australia to 120/3.

Smith left after playing a 46-run hit, but in the end, Marcus Stoinis and Daniel Sams added 17 more runs to the total, pushing Australia’s score past the 190-run mark.

Short Scores: Australia 194/5 (Matthew Wade 58, Steve Smith 46, T Natarajan 2-20); India 195/4 (Shikhar Dhawan 52, Virat Kohli 40, Mitchell Swepson 1-25)

17:31: Hardik Pandya, man of the match: It’s very simple. I like to look at the scoreboard and play to know which players to target. I have been in these situations many times and learned from my mistakes in the past. My game always revolves around the confidence that I have, it has that fine line that I lean on and I don’t get too confident. I always remember all those times when we were chasing great totals and that helps. They hit really well and we wanted to be positive and Special mention to Natarajan too. I thought I should be the man of the match, because the bowlers fought here and he played a very good game.

17:21:

Hardik: I felt (we were) two good shots (away), quite happy. More than six wanted to finish the game. Throughout all five games, I’ve been trying to figure out which bat to hit with. This one looks good.

4:58 PM: Daniel Sams to Kohli, Caught by Wade !!

Dented and gone! Daniel Sams smart bowling, slowed down the pace and threw it well away

4:52 PM: After 15 overs, 141/3

Exactly the kind of about India you’ve been waiting for. 18 runs into the Andrew Tye finish have turned the momentum completely in favor of the visitors.

16:46: Swepson to Samson, Caught by Smith !!; After 14 overs, 123/3

The ‘Samson show’ comes to an end. He was on the field, looking for a fullie, but Swepson threw it fast and short outside.

4:36 PM: Zampa Dhawan, Caught by Swepson !!

The Australian spinners have been too good and finally some payoff for Zampa. He rolls it up nicely and lures Dhawan in to play a slogsweep, a massive top edge, and the fielder in the middle of the deep wicket had all the time in the world to settle underneath. Wade is in pieces and so are the rest of his teammates.

4:32 PM: Dhawan rolls his eleventh 50

4:24 PM: After 10 overs, 86/1

India is in a comfortable situation, courtesy of the bombing of Dhawan and Rahul in the power play. But they need to continue the momentum, if they want to have an easy win.

4:18 PM: Powerplay Highlights; After 8 overs, 73/1

Powerplay done. India 1 of 60. Australia 1 of 59.

16:10: Tie to Rahul, OUT; After 6 overs, 60/1

Caught in a deep point! Tye goes with the 118 km / h knuckle ball and cheats on Rahul. It was fuller on the outside, tried to jump over cover point but got too low, went too far into the air, but Swepson held tight on the rope and caught well.

15:53: After 3 overs, 24/0

KL Rahul, Dhawan have given Mathew Wade their start in India. They need to continue all of this, if Men in Blue wish to seal the series.

3:40 PM: Rahul and Dhawan are in the fold. Rahul is on strike. Daniel Sams will open the attack

15:20: So Australia managed to get a little over 100 in the second half of their innings, which is a decent effort given that India pulled things out in the middle. India needs 195 to win.

15:10: Chahal equals Bumrah’s record

Chahal is now the tallest wicket at T20 along with Bumrah with 59 wickets.

15:09: Chahal to Smith, out Caught by Hardik Pandya !!

Long back, thrown by Chahal. It gets to Smith quickly, who misses it from the top of the bat. It should have been comfortable for Pandya to run a long time to his left. But he almost ate it. After a juggling act, he finally holds onto the third try.

15:01: After 17 overs, 157/3

Smith’s greatest hits at Chahal’s over were exactly what Australia needed. If India wants to stay in the game, it will have to break the Smith-Henriques partnership.

14:40: After 13 overs, 121/3

Shardul Thakur was costly in this game. His statement about “finding Smith’s weakness” seems to go down the drain in this game. But that Maxwell window will definitely give you some relief.

14:16: Mathew Wade reaches his 50 second

STATISTICS: Second score 50+ for Wade in T20I; first came against India at the same venue in 2012.

14:02: Natarajan to Short, OUT; After 4 overs, 47/1

Great catch from Iyer in the deep attack square. This was a high-headed short ball, D’Arcy Short threw it flat and hard, dug into it, but it hit right at the man and Iyer had to back off a bunt, jump and take the catch over his head. Good catch.

13:49: After 2 overs, 22/0

Mathew Wade gives the Australians a quick start. It’s a good thing, as this would give D’Arcy little time to settle down before he can bring his Big Bash League (BBL) form to account.

13:42: Deepak Chahar has the new ball. It was excellent in Canberra. A slip. Wade on strike

13:13: India won the draw and chose to pitch first against Australia

Australia (playing XI): D Arcy Short, Marcus Stoinis, Steven Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Moises Henriques, Matthew Wade (w / c), Daniel Sams, Sean Abbott, Mitchell Swepson, Adam Zampa, Andrew Tye

India (playing XI): KL Rahul (w), Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli (c), Shreyas Iyer, Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Deepak Chahar, T Natarajan, Yuzvendra Chahal

Matthew Wade | Captain of Australia: Finch, Hazlewood and Starc are out. Sams, Stoinis and Tye are in

Kohli: First we will launch. Pitch looked great. They miss Aaron Finch today so we want to restrain and haunt them. Chahal replaces Jadeja. Thakur replaces Shami. Iyer replaces Pandey.

12:59: India is ready, the team goes ahead of the game

12:49: What can we expect today?

The SCG pitches for the first two ODIs had many runs but were uneven towards the end of the second game. The likes of Henriques, Chahar and Natarajan thrived in the up and down nature of the Canberra field, and while you’d expect powerful hitters on both sides to take over, it may not necessarily be a high-scoring game.
