First phase of the new highway to open on May 1

Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Saturday that the first phase of the Mumbai-Nagpur Samruddhi Expressway from Nagpur to Shirdi will open to the public on May 1, 2021.

The prime minister made the announcement after reviewing the work at Shivni-Rasulapur in the Nandgaon-Khandeshwar taluka of the Amravati district.

“The Hinduhridaysamrat Balasaheb Thackeray Samruddhi Expressway will be the best in the country and in the next six months, the road to Shirdi will be open to traffic,” Thackeray said.

The section of the highway in Amravati is 74 km long and Thackeray traveled 6 km on the section to check quality and speed.

Work on the project continued even during the coronavirus-induced lockdown, which is why most of it is complete, the prime minister said.

“Maharashtra will be proud of the highway. The first phase from Nagpur to Shirdi will open to the public on May 1, 2021 and the entire project up to Mumbai will be completed in one year,” he said.

The eight-lane, 701 km long highway, which is being built at the cost of 55,000 crore, will pass through 10 districts and is expected to reduce the travel time between Mumbai and Nagpur to eight hours from 18 hours today.

The Chief Minister was accompanied by Ministers of State Eknath Shinde, Yashomati Thakur, Sanjay Rathod and senior officials during the visit.
