Abohar, December 5

In addition to burning the effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Anil Ambani and Adani corporations, protesters here also burned an effigy of film actor Kangana Ranaut here on Saturday expressing their anguish over the latter’s ‘derogatory’ comments about the elderly farmer of Bathinda, Mohinder Kaur.

Farmers union leaders Sharanpreet Singh, Davinder Singh, Baksheesh Singh Jamnia, Manpreet Singh, Gurvinder Singh Ricky, Sohan Singh Fauji, Baljit Singh Sandhu and some women activists were present on the occasion.

They said that people were rising above politics in support of farmers, who had suffered atrocities while passing through Haryana on a peaceful march to Delhi. We will continue to make the voice of farmers’ rights heard in the same way.

Baksheesh Singh Jamnia said that if necessary, hundreds of people from Abohar will also go to Delhi in support of farmers. If they had to send rations, water to the farmers, none would back down.

Davinder Singh said actress Kangana Ranaut’s derogatory tweets about elderly mother Mohinder Kaur were widely condemned globally, but instead of offering an unconditional apology, she was abusing Punjabi artists and stars who opposed her wrongdoing.

As a woman, Kangana should have refrained from uploading objectionable messages that have hurt the sentiments of Punjabis around the world, she added. More effigies will be burned if the actor does not express regret, he concluded.

Sohan Singh Fauji said that the farmer’s name is Annadata. Thanks to them, the whole world receives a lot of food. Therefore, everyone must support their legitimate movement.
