Uttar Pradesh MLC Polls: BJP, SP win one seat each; counting in progress | Lucknow News


LUCK: The Samajwadi Party won two seats and the ruling Bjp a seat in the Legislative Council of Uttar Pradesh the election for the electoral districts of the graduates while the counting of votes continued in the two remaining seats.
BJP Manvendra Pratap Singh candidate ‘Guru Ji’ won the Agra Division Graduate seat, while SPAshutosh Sinha won the Varanasi Division Graduate position and Maan Singh Yadav won the Allahabad-Jhansi Division Graduate position, the elections office said.
While the Samajwadi Party has snatched the Varanasi and Allahabad-Jhansi seats from the BJP, it lost the Agra seat to the BJP.
The counting of votes for the Meerut and Lucknow graduate position continued and results are expected late in the evening, UP Elections Director Ajay Kumar Shukla said.
On Friday, the results of six seats in the teachers’ constituency were released, of which three were held by the BJP, one by the Samajwadi Party and two by independents.
BJP’s Umesh Dwivedi, Shrishchandra Sharma and Hari Singh Dhillon were declared winners from the Lucknow, Meerut and Bareilly-Moradabad teacher districts, respectively.
The SP candidates Lal Bihari Yadav won from the Varanasi teachers ‘constituency and independents Akash Agarwal and Dhruv Kumar Tripathi won from the Agra and Faizabad teachers’ constituencies, respectively.
Voting took place Tuesday for 11 seats, five reserved for graduates and six for teachers. BJP, SP, Congress and teachers’ associations contested the polls, with 199 candidates in the fray.
The mandate of the MLCs in these constituencies had expired on May 6.
