CALCUTTA: National BJP vice president Mukul roy has been named on a supplemental charge sheet submitted by the West Bengal CID in Connection with the murder of TMC MLA of Krishnaganj, Satyajit Biswas, sources said. The supplemental charge sheet was filed in court in the Nadia district on Saturday afternoon, they said.
“Roy’s active involvement, primarily as a conspirator” in the Biswas murder, was discovered during the investigation, they said.
CID detectives had previously questioned the BJP leader in this regard. However, the state agency did not name him on its first charge sheet filed in May of last year.
When contacted, Roy dismissed the charges and said he had never believed in the politics of violence.
“There are at least 45 cases pending against me. I do not believe in the politics of violence and I never indulge in such things. I challenge the Chief Minister Mamata banerjee, who is also the police minister to say in public that I have that kind of taste.
“I was not involved in such things when I was with his party and not even now when I am a member of another political party,” Roy said.
CID detectives had also named BJP deputy Jagannath Sarkar in another supplemental charge sheet filed in September this year in connection with the case.
Biswas, the ruling MLA state party, was shot dead during a Saraswati Puja program in Nadia district in February 2019.
