Congress blames the media for their defeat in the GHMC elections

HYDERABAD: TPCC Acting Chairman and MP A. Revanth Reddy argued that Congress had contested the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections only with its cadre and not with national leaders, while the Bharatiya Janata Party deployed its Union ministers, senior ministers and former senior ministers in the corporate poll campaign.

In a press conference at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday after the GHMC results, he noted that even the TRS had campaigned with its ministers, MLA and MLC to pocket the GHMC. Parties other than Congress continued to communalize the elections with their provocative comments. He thanked all the cadres in Congress for their hard work in getting the Congressional candidates elected.

The MP accused the media of failing to do their part of the duty. All channels supported a political party and none gave even the slightest coverage to the Congressional campaign. He argued that the media had turned out to be one of the main reasons for the defeat of Congress in the GHMC polls. He denounced that the BJP and TRS had delivered “packages” to the channels but Congress did not have such funds.

Revanth Reddy said Congress still had a 14.5 percent turnout in the elections compared to 10.4 in the latest corporate polls. He also noted that BJP contested 54 seats in the GHMC elections last time in alliance with TD and obtained 24 percent of the vote. BJP’s stake in the alliance was then only 10 percent.
