The placement boom has broken through the Corona pandemic lockdown barrier at IIT Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad, as the institution witnessed the largest number of student selection by domestic and international companies in recent three years.
According to the IIT ISM Career Development Center (CDC), the online placement at IIT ISM started on Monday night (12am) and as of Thursday 11am, 188 students were picked up by 45 domestic and foreign companies.
One hundred students have already been selected under the Pre-Placement Offer (PPO) by different companies.
IIT ISM is closed since the close of March 22 due to the Corona pandemic. Companies are screening online from campus while students are sitting at home.
The CDC official claimed that in the three-day campus selection, IIT ISM’s Yash Kumar Soni has so far obtained the highest annual package of Rs 48.38 lakh in Jharkhand and Bihar. The Japanese company Linkedwiz INC has selected the computer engineer Yash Kumar Soni.
Mohit Kishore from IIT Patna earned the second highest annual package in two days of placement in Jharkhand and Bihar. The Microsoft company has hired him for a package of Rs 43.5 lakh per year. Mohit kishore is also a computer engineer.
A senior IIT ISM official said that despite the closure in 2020, the campus selection of 188 candidates is the highest placement for IIT ISM in the last three years in two days.
In 2019, a total of 116 candidates were selected in the first two days in campus selection at IIT ISM, while in 2018, companies selected 73 candidates in the first two days.
The official said that three foreign companies, including Japan’s Linkwiz INC, have so far selected seven students from the institution in two days, starting at 12 a.m. on Monday.
The IIT ISM CDC official said that while 45 companies are participating in the placement unit, all have shown great interest in computer engineers. So far, the 56 highest students, including Yash Kumar Soni, have been selected from this stream, followed by the departments of petroleum engineering and mechanical engineering, which are 15 and 12 candidates respectively.
Due to the security point of view, IIT ISM management did not share the personal identification of the selected students who appeared in the online interview.
