A PIL was filed in the Supreme Court on Friday calling for the removal of agitated farmers from the roads in Delhi, as travelers face roadblocks since November 26, when thousands of farmers from Punjab, Haryana and Western UP arrived. to the national capital.

Petitioner Rishabh Sharma, a resident of Shashi Nagar in Delhi, said: “As the virus is spreading rapidly and COVID19 cases are increasing day by day in Delhi, it is paramount that this protest is stopped immediately.”

He demanded that the borders of Delhi be opened and that protesters be moved to a designated location where they should follow regulations, including physical distancing, to control the spread of COVID-19.

The petitioner argued that it was “very necessary” to withdraw the meeting as it blocked roads for all medical and emergency services necessary to stop the growing spread of COVID-19.

Many people frequently traveled to Delhi from different states to receive treatment at the large government hospitals located in the capital, Sharma noted.

He stated that “the lives of thousands of protesters at the Delhi borders are in immediate danger as the virus is highly contagious and if by chance this coronavirus disease takes the form of community spread, it will wreak havoc in the country.”

Sharma sought “immediate intervention” from the high court to restrict the mass gathering of people in a particular location.

The petitioner said that Delhi police allowed protesters to hold peaceful demonstrations at Nirankari Ground, Burari, in north Delhi, but despite that, they blocked Delhi’s borders, preventing people from using the roads.

Citing the recent high court verdict in Amit Sahni against the police commissioner and others, Sharma said that protests that blocked the public road and caused serious inconvenience to travelers, such protests cannot be allowed and an unknown number of people cannot gather wherever they choose to protest.

The petitioner said that he transferred to the highest court since the people affected by such irresponsible acts of the protesters and the State were not in a position to remove them, as they were huge in number despite the fact that the protest caused many problems for the citizens.

Noting that COVID-19 was declared a pandemic by the WHO on March 11 and the government has issued various guidelines to restrict public gatherings to a maximum of 50 people, Sharma said despite the fact that more than three lakh of farmers had left. gathered at the borders of Delhi to protest against the agricultural laws.
