The first ODI between South Africa and England has been canceled for Covid-related reasons, Cricbuzzhas learned.
The game was supposed to have been played in Newlands on Friday, but news that it would not follow began to leak, without confirmation from CSA, just over two hours before the scheduled start.
“This decision is due to a Proteas team player testing positive for COVID-19 after the last scheduled round of team testing that took place on Thursday before ODI,” a CSA press release said.
“In the interests of the safety and well-being of both teams, the match officials and everyone involved in the match, CSA Acting Director General Kugandrie Govender as well as ECB Director General Tom Harrison agreed to postpone the first until Sunday “.
