Union ministers Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Piyush Goyal attended a meeting on the farmers’ protest at the residence of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) head JP Nadda on Tuesday. The meeting was the last in a series of meetings of BJP leaders on the subject and lasted more than two hours.
Farmers have been seeking the repeal of three laws enacted in September to liberalize the agricultural sector and have been camping on the borders of Delhi. The government has invited protesting farmers to speak on Tuesday.

A BJP official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement on Monday that the laws are beneficial to farmers is an indication that the government is ready to address their concerns. But a reversal may not be in the cards, the official added.
“Genuine farmer complaints will be addressed. They have concerns about some aspects, such as whether the government will continue to provide MSP [Minimum Support Price]. We are ready to respond to those concerns. The demand for a rollback is based on rumors and fear fueled by the opposition, ”said the official.
