With the resignation of the independent MLA of Dadri Sombir Sangwan as chair of the Haryana Livestock Development Board today, unrest in the BJP-led ruling alliance in Haryana over the farmers’ protest has resurfaced.

Jolt for Khattar govt

We will march by truck to Delhi on Tuesday and will not return until the Center resolves the farmers’ complaints. If the Center believes that the new laws will not alter the existing system, why is it reluctant to give a written guarantee on the MSP system? – Sombir Sangwan, IND MLA by Dadri

Sangwan, who heads the Sangwan khap that has influence in 40 villages in the Bhiwani and Dadri districts, was among the seven independent MLAs who had provided support to the BJP-JJP government after the Assembly elections last year. Four of them were named presidents or corporations and boards.

In October, Barwala JJP legislator Jogi Ram Sihag also raised a rebellion flag on the same issue and refused to accept the post of chairman of the Haryana Housing Board.

In his resignation, sent to Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Sangwan wrote that he would resign and join the farmers’ protest in Delhi. He said that a large number of farmers in his constituency had been camping on the Delhi border.

Among others, Kalirawan, Chahal, Kher Khap, Daran Khap and Thua have perhaps extended their support to protesting farmers.
