Voting for 43 constituencies in the second phase of the District Development Council (DDC) elections in Jammu and Kashmir will take place on Tuesday. The contest is between the recently launched People’s Alliance for the Gupkar Declaration, the BJP, and the Apni Party raised by former Finance Minister Altaf Bukhari.

“Out of the total 280 DDC constituencies in J&K, 25 will go to the polls in Kashmir and 18 in Jammu in the second phase of the elections,” said Union Territory Election Commissioner KK Sharma. Up to 7.90 lakh voters are eligible to vote at this stage and 142 polling stations have been established throughout the union.
The first phase of voting, also for 43 seats, took place on Saturday. In this phase, 51.76% of the votes were registered, according to official figures.
“The first phase of the DDC surveys was carried out in 43 electoral districts in the 20 districts of the UT. No adverse incident was reported anywhere other than a minor incident in which a child threw a stone at a polling station in Kulgam. The police learned, ”Sharma had said previously.

The election, for which 2,146 polling stations have been established, will be held in eight phases and will continue until December 19. The vote count will take place on December 22. There are 1,427 candidates in the fray and more than 7,000 are eligible to vote.
These elections are the first to take place after the repeal of Article 370 and the reorganization of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir, and adequate security arrangements have been made for the elections. Sharma said 169 companies from the central forces would be deployed to polling stations and during the withdrawal of personnel.
