Rajini Makkal Mandram’s district secretaries, who met actor Rajinikanth on Monday morning at the latter’s Raghavendra Marriage Hall in Chennai to express their views on the future course of action, urged him to soon launch his political party. They also wanted him to be the CM candidate of the party and not name anyone else, unlike what the actor had previously hinted at.
“We urge you to enter politics for the sake of the people of Tamil Nadu. All district secretaries have urged the same. A large crowd had gathered in front of the wedding hall in Kodambakkam since Monday morning. Anxious fans, who wore RMM badges, joyfully expressed their views on television news channels. They hoped that Rajinikanth would certainly take the political step and launch his own party soon.
Fans sprayed flower petals on the actor’s car when he arrived at the scene. Shortly after going downstairs, he donned a mask, waved to the fans, and quickly entered the hall. The meeting, which was attended by around 50 people, including RMM district secretaries and state-level officials, began around 10 a.m. and lasted around 90 minutes.

In early March this year, Rajinikanth told reporters that he wanted to see an “uprising” among people seeking “change” from the Dravidian parties that have ruled the state for more than 50 years. He said he did not want to become prime minister, but would nominate the best qualified person for that position if his party won the election.
On December 31, 2017, Rajinikanth told his fans, in a meeting at the same location that he would address his mandram, that he would enter politics in time for the assembly elections and would present candidates in all 234 segments of the assembly. “I am going to propagate spiritual politics,” he had said.
