- Shiv Sena joins the opposition chorus against the Center’s treatment of farmers
- BJP ruins country’s environment, invites autocracy, says former ally
- If the Khalistan problem lights the spark, it will be disastrous for India: Saamana
Mumbai:
The Law Enforcement Directorate and the IWC “should be sent to the borders” to combat terrorists entering Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra ruler Shiv Sena said in his latest attack on former ally BJP. Criticizing the government’s treatment of protesting farmers near Delhi “who are called terrorists,” the Sena also said it was “cruel” to use water cannons on them in the cold snap hitting parts of northern India.
In an editorial in his spokesman “Saamana”, Shiv Sena referred to the giant statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in Gujarat “erected by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah” and said that the country’s iconic Prime Minister of the Interior had led to many farmers agitations against the British. “His statue must be crying now, seeing how farmers are treated,” the article said.
Also commenting on the alleged use of central agencies to attack rivals in opposition-ruled states, Saamna’s editorial said: “The government thinks about stopping the opposition, they can use the ED (Enforcement Directorate), CBI. Therefore , these agencies should be given a chance to prove their worth. Every time the bullets don’t work. At the Delhi border, our farmers are called terrorists as terrorists enter the J&K border. At those times, ED and CBI must be sent to the borders. There is no other option … “The Sena has accused the central government of attacking its MLA, Pratap Sarnaik, who is being investigated by the Directorate of Execution for alleged money laundering.
“The BJP is not only ruining the environment of the country, but it is also inviting autocracy. The issue of Jalistán is over and that is why Indira Gandhi and General Arun Kumar Vaidya gave their lives. But the BJP wants to take out again that issue and do politics in Punjab. If this ignites a spark, it will be disastrous for the country, “the Sena editorial said.
The “Khalistan” turn to the farmers’ protests emerged last week when Haryana’s chief minister ML Khattar and other BJP leaders alleged slogans of the Sikh separatist movement. “We have input from some of those unwanted elements in the crowd. We have reports, we will release them once it’s concrete. They raised those slogans. In videos they said ‘jab Indira Gandhi ko ye kar sakte hain, toh Modi ko kyu nahi kar sakte (If we can do this to Indira Gandhi, why not (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi? ”Khattar told reporters, referring to the unverified videos in circulation.
Farmers from across the country have gathered around Delhi to protest against new farm laws that the center says will bring about reforms. Protesting farmers fear the laws will remove their guaranteed minimum profits and allow companies to control prices. They have threatened to block all entrances to Delhi and stay unless the government agrees to cancel the laws.
