Ronald Koeman offered an update on Clement Lenglet’s injury after Barcelona’s 4-0 win over Osasuna on Sunday in La Liga.
The Frenchman was forced to retire with an ankle problem in the second half, leaving Barça without top center-backs currently in shape, as Gerard Piqué, Ronald Araujo and Samuel Umtiti are out of play.
Koeman believes Lenglet’s injury is not too serious, but says the club must wait until tomorrow to find out how long he is likely to be out of action.
“I have spoken with the doctor and it seems that we will have to wait until tomorrow for the tests, but it does not seem that it is that serious. I don’t know about Wednesday’s game, but I hope it is nothing important.
Barcelona play against Ferenvaros in the Champions League and then against Cádiz in La Liga. Araujo and Umtiti have returned to training, but it is not yet clear when they might be fit to play for the first team.
Therefore, Mingueza can look forward to more playing time, although Koeman had a few words of caution for the youngster after the match.
“I told him he played very well, but he lost the ball twice in areas where he cannot be lost. We talk about it. A bad touch can lead to an opportunity for the opponent. You can play a good game, but two mistakes can cost you the game. He has to learn and improve ”.
It is likely that Barça will need Mingueza again in the middle of the week due to his injury situation. Frenkie de Jong could also play central defense if none of the centrals are available.
