PNC leader turned BJP Rajya Sabha deputy Udayanraje Bhosale said on Sunday that the issue of reservations for the Maratha community in Maharashtra was being deliberately delayed and called on people to seek answers from those responsible. Speaking to reporters, Bhosale said that the Maratha quota was overlooked even at the time of the implementation of the Mandal Commission report, as the party that ruled the state during that period (in 1990) ignored the community problems.
The head of the CPN, Sharad Pawar, was the prime minister of the Maharashtra Congress at the time. “All communities except Marathas received reservations under the Mandal Commission. The people you trusted and voted for will bring you down,” Bhosale said.
He also criticized Uddhav Thackeray’s dispensation for “not taking the issue forward” and stated that “the state government attorney” missed a hearing on the issue of quotas in the Supreme Court, adding that “the community will react to such tactics. ” He praised the former leader of the CM and the BJP, Devendra Fadnavis, and said that the latter “took the initiative and enacted a law to give reservations to Marathas.”
Bhosale said that the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examinations should now be conducted leaving aside the seats that will be part of the Maratha quota, as the issue is now heard in the high court. The CS recently suspended implementation of the 2018 law granting reservations to marathas in employment and education and referred the matter to a broader constitutional court.
