Covid 19 Vaccine Progress in India Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today went on a three-city tour to review the progress of Covid-19 vaccine development in India. Prime Minister Modi visited Ahmedabad, Pune and Hyderabad, three cities where research and development of Indian vaccine candidates is underway. Prime Minister Modi first arrived in Ahmedabad as part of his three-city visit to review coronavirus vaccine development work at the city’s facilities. The prime minister visited the Zydus Cadila pharmaceutical plant near Ahmedabad to obtain information on the development of his vaccine, the official said.
The phase I clinical trial of Zydus Cadilla’s ZyCoV-D vaccine candidate has ended and the pharmaceutical company began phase II clinical trials starting in August. After Ahmedabad, PM flew to Hyderabad where he visited the facilities of the vaccine manufacturer Bharat Biotech. Bharat Biotech’s Covaxin is undergoing phase 3 trials. After spending an hour in Hyderabad, PM headed to Pune to visit the Serum Institute of India (SII), which has partnered with the global pharmaceutical giant AstraZeneca and the University Oxford for the vaccine.
