Calcutta:
The ruling Trinamool Congress on Saturday accused the BJP of “capturing” three of its party’s offices in West Bengal’s Purba Medinipur district following the resignation of Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari from Mamata Banerjee’s cabinet.
However, the BJP denied the allegations and claimed that none of its activists were involved in such incidents.
The TMC heavyweight, who is also the MLA of Nandigram’s neighboring seat, resigned from his ministerial position on Friday. He is reportedly unhappy with the party’s top brass on some issues.
Khejuri’s TMC MLA, Ranjit Mondal, said the BJP cadre captured the party’s offices at the TMC booth level on Friday night after Adhikari’s resignation.
“While they were placing BJP flags in our offices and throwing the TMC flags to the ground, they said that the offices belong to BJP
“We have no idea how the BJP can claim our offices. They didn’t have any such offices in Nandigram or Khejuri,” Mondal said.
The TMC MLA, however, stated that the party will soon regain its offices.
Local TMC member Sheikh Naushad claimed that BJP activists ransacked three party offices in Kulta, Amiachak and Patna, shouting slogans that these offices now belong to them.
A district leader of the BJP said that party activists did not participate in the “capture” of the TMC offices in Khejuri.
“The BJP does not believe in taking over the offices of other parties. The TMC had captured other party offices in Nandigram and Khejuri in the past. Now people have turned against the TMC and they are occupying the offices of their parties,” he said.
