“Duniya mera ghar hai, bus stop mera adda hai, jab mann kare aa jana, Raju mera naam hai … aur pyar se log mujhe bulate hain … Coolie No. 1“Govinda said in 1995, unaware that he was creating history. Govinda had teamed up with David Dhawan and Karisma Kapoor once again to deliver a blockbuster, Pawn No.1. Whether it’s for her flawless acting, killer dance moves, or the versatility to portray various characters in a movie, Coolie No. 1 it is definitely one of the best movies of his career.
Cut to 25 years later, David is back in the director’s chair to tell the same story with a few different twists and turns. Marking his 45th directing adventure, David is set to release the remake of Pawn No.1 starring Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan, and Paresh Rawal at the helm. The film was scheduled for release in May of this year, but was delayed due to the ongoing pandemic. All set to launch this Christmas on an online streaming platform, the creators just released the trailer and it’s the entertainment rollercoaster you’ve been waiting for.

While the trailer has received the go-ahead from the audience, another pressing question on everyone’s mind is whether Varun, the next-generation star, will be able to do Govinda’s Raju justice. Govinda as Raju was raw, unfiltered, real and made you believe that he really was a coolie. Going through the trailer, there are some scenes in which Varun looks like a spitting image of Govinda from 1995. Whether it’s the scene where he tries to flaunt his wealth to please his father-in-law or the time at the train station where he caught for lying, Varun pays a fitting tribute to OG’s coolie.
Govinda’s version was more raw, unfiltered, unrefined with rustic elements, while Varun’s version of the film sees more refined moments and safer fashion choices. While some loved Varun’s version of Raju, others are very upset with the trailer.
David’s last adventure as director, Judwaa 2 saw the original star, Salman Khan in a cameo. And we just hope that Pawn No.1 He also has a surprise for his fans with a special cameo from Govinda.
