Mumbai: Former Maharashtra Chief Minister and BJP Leader Devendra Fadnavis targeted the government of Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and accused it of harassing ‘dissidents’.
At a press conference in Mumbai on Saturday (November 28, 2020), the opposition leader in the Assembly, Devendra Fadnavis, took aim at the MVA in his one-year rule and called it a ‘total failure’.
Fadnavis criticized Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, claiming that he had yet to see a CM who is “threatening the people”, especially political opponents and the kind of language he uses despite holding a constitutional post.
Also, the BJP leader said that the BJP does not fully endorse journalist Arnab Goswami or the opinions of actress Kangana Ranaut, but he also does not agree with the way the Maharashtra government harasses those who speak out against the regime and crushes dissidents.
“The two recent court rulings in the Arnab Goswami and Kangana Ranaut cases clearly reflect that there is a collapse of the constitutional machinery and abuse of power,” IANS said.
Devendra Fadnavis was apparently referring to the Supreme Court’s decision to extend the provisional bail of journalist Arnab Goswami and to the Bombay High Court’s observation that the Mumbai civic body’s action to demolish part of Actor Kangana Ranaut’s bungalow in Mumbai smells of malice.
The BJP leader also said that he had not seen any prime minister in Maharashtra apart from Uddhav Thackeray, who threatened the opposition “so much”, and said his recent interview with ‘Saamana’ (Shiv Sena’s spokesman) did not conform to the constitutional position he held.
Devendra Fadnavis also took aim at the Thackeray-led coalition for ignoring the plight of farmers in the state and failing on the Maratha reserve issue.
“The Thackeray government has not provided financial assistance to farmers. The government has completely ignored their plight. Cotton and soybean crops were destroyed due to pest attack, but no help was provided to farmers,” said Fadnavis .
“This government has also failed miserably in the Maratha reservation,” he claimed.
