Mumbai: Railways has reiterated that women are prohibited from taking their children on local Mumbai trains. The decision was announced once again after it was discovered that a large number of female passengers were traveling with their children on local trains. The rule is applicable to both the Central Railroad and the Western Railroad routes. DRM Mumbai and Mumbai Central have given their go-ahead to the rule.

To prevent children from boarding local trains, Rail Protection Force (RPF) personnel will be deployed at each entrance gate.

“The Board of Railways has only allowed female passengers to travel on local trains during stipulated hours over the Mumbai metropolitan region. However, it has been observed that female passengers
traveling with your child / children. In view of the above, it is reiterated once again that only women are allowed during the stipulated hours and not children. Hence the request to delegate RPF at each entrance door and give the necessary instructions to restrict the entry of children at the entrance itself, ”the order said.

As part of the “Start Over” mission, the Maharashtra government in late October allowed all the women to travel with the locals. Previously, only women who worked in essential services and government offices were allowed to travel. Female travelers travel on local trains at the stipulated time between 11 am and 3 pm and 7 pm until midnight.

Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of coronavirus cases so far. The number of COVID-19 cases in the state rose to 18,02,365 on November 26 when 6,406 new infections were reported. The Mumbai city count is 2,79,744 with 1,147 new coronavirus cases reported on Thursday. The city has recorded 10,740 deaths so far.

The Mumbai division, which consists of the city of Mumbai and satellite cities, has reported 6.25,192 corona cases and so far 18,580 people have succumbed to the deadly contagious virus.
