Chandigarh: As thousands of farmers defy all attempts by various administrations to stop them from marching towards the national capital as part of their ‘Delhi Chalo’ campaign against the Center’s farm laws, a video has gone viral on social media showing a protester jumping up and up a police car to extinguish the water cannons aimed at the farmers.
In particular, tens of thousands of farmers, heading towards Delhi, are facing tear gas shells and water cannons to break through police barricades set up in various locations along the Punjab-Haryana border and the border of Delhi-Haryana.
In the video that is circulating on social media, a young protester, identified as Navdeep Singh from the Ambala district of Haryana, can be seen getting into a truck from a tractor car and turning off the water cannon.
As he did so, a policeman, who was chasing him, tries to stop him. However, undeterred by the insistence of the police, Navdeep Singh turns off the tap and actively leaps back into a nearby tractor-car.
Singh reportedly has a graduate degree and was protesting together with farmers from more than 250 villages on Thursday when the incident occurred.
The video was reportedly filmed at Kurukshetra in Haryana.
While some on Twitter described the images as the strength of farmers, others called him a hero.
Earlier today, plumes of smoke were seen on the Haryana-Delhi Singhu border as security personnel used tear gas to disperse farmers.
The projectiles were fired at the Haryana-Delhi border point in Narela.
“We are using tear gas to disperse protesting farmers. We also inform them that in view of the COVID-19 pandemic, no demonstration or dharna is allowed,” said a police officer.
“They have been denied permission and legal action will be taken against them if they still try to enter Delhi,” the official added.
