The three laws that farmers are protesting are: the Agricultural Products Trade and Trade (Promotion and Facilitation) Act of 2020, the Farmers Agreement (Empowerment and Protection) on Price Guarantee and Agricultural Services of 2020 and the Agricultural Services Act of 2020. According to farmers, this would make them vulnerable to exploitation by large corporations and weaken the government’s procurement system, as part of which the government buys commodities from them, such as wheat and rice, at guaranteed prices (MSP).
