Jailed RJD chief Lalu Prasad was transferred from the bungalow of the director of the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) to the payment ward of the medical institute on Thursday, two days after BJP leaders in Bihar alleged that the head of the RJD telephoned BJP lawmakers in an attempt to overthrow the NDA government and influence the choice of the Speaker.
With the Jharkhand BJP cornering the JMM-Congress-RJD government led by Hemant Soren alleging that the head of RJD was flouting the jail manual and using mobile phones from the director’s bungalow, Inspector General (IG) (prisons) Birendra Bhushan he had ordered an investigation into it. .
However, Bhushan confirmed that the head of RJD has been transferred to the room, adding that only the RIMS authorities could comment further on this.
“The decision was not made at our level. The RIM authorities could better explain the reason if some health condition required their change in the ward, ”said Bhushan.
On the investigation he ordered on Wednesday, Bhushan said he had not yet received a report from the jail authorities. RIM authorities could not be immediately reached for comment.
The former prime minister of Bihar has been languishing in jail since December 23, 2017, following his conviction in three fodder scam cases in quick succession. He is currently in custodial treatment here at RIMS. In August, he was transferred to the hospital director’s bungalow due to the spread of covid-19.

Prasad has already obtained bail in two cases. He moved the application for bail in the third and final case in the Jharkhand high court, which set November 27 to hear the case.
The latest controversy surrounding Prasad arose after Bihar’s former chief deputy minister and BJP leader Sushil Modi alleged that Prasad was attempting to overthrow the elected government of Bihar. On Wednesday, he also tweeted an audio clip, allegedly of Prasad speaking on the phone with a BJP lawmaker.
“Lalu Yadav making a phone call (8051216302) from Ranchi to NDA MLA and promising ministerial positions. When I called on the phone, Lalu answered directly. I said don’t do these dirty tricks from jail, you won’t be successful, ”Modi said in his tweet.
