Farmers Protest: After Singhu Border, Delhi Police Close Tikri Border

Although the Singhu border near Delhi’s outer Narela has been closed to traffic since Thursday night due to thousands of farmers marching towards Delhi, on Friday morning the police also closed the Tikri border that goes from Delhi to Bahadurgarh.

Traffic police alerted travelers that both roads on the Tikri border had been closed and that motorists could not enter Delhi or go to Haryana via that route.

The Singhu border connecting Narela and adjoining Delhi areas with Sonepat was closed at around 4.30pm on Thursday, as Delhi police said they had information from their Haryana counterparts about farmers approaching the border.

Gaurav Sharma, deputy police commissioner (foreign-north), said Thursday night that the Singhu border would be open at 7 pm, but that did not happen because the threat was not mitigated.

Motorists have been warned to avoid the Singhu border, Tikri border, NH-44, Outer Ring Road, and Mukarba Chowk in view of the strict blockades and controls at the borders.

While other border routes have remained open, police control at all those points has greatly slowed traffic since Wednesday night.
