Farmers protest LIVE updates: Delhi metro closes 6 stations on Green Line as protest intensifies


Punjab farmers, protesting against the three controversial agricultural laws passed by the Center in September, resumed their march to Delhi on Friday as part of their “Dilli Chalo” protest. On Thursday, protesting farmers were able to cross into neighboring Haryana despite violent clashes with the Haryana police. The police action sparked a war of words between the two states.

With the border between Haryana and Delhi completely sealed off, farmers once again faced resistance in their attempt to reach the national capital. The farmers, however, say they have enough ration and other essential items and will sit in ‘dharna’ wherever the police stop them. The Delhi police had already rejected two separate requests from farmers to protest in the city, citing the Covid-19 regulations in effect here.

Earlier, thousands of farmers from Punjab and Haryana gathered in Panipat on Friday and jointly resumed their march towards the national capital in the so-called ‘Dilli Chalo’ given by the agricultural unions for an indefinite protest against the agricultural laws.

Even as the Singhu border near Delhi’s outer Narela has been closed to traffic since Thursday night due to the march of farmers, on Friday morning the police also closed the Tikri border from Delhi to Bahadurgarh .
