The main leader of Congress, Ahmed Patel, was buried in his hometown Piraman in the Bharuch district of Gujarat on Thursday.
Congressional leader Rahul Gandhi attended the funeral of the party’s key strategist and problem solver, who died on Wednesday.
Ahmed Patel’s body came to Piraman from Vadodara and was buried in a Muslim cemetery in the presence of hundreds of locals and congressional leaders.
His body arrived at Vadodara airport on Wednesday night and was kept at Sardar Patel Hospital in Ankleshwar city of Bharuch district.
After landing at Surat airport on Thursday morning, Gandhi arrived in Piraman by road and met the grieving relatives of the former congressional deputy at their ancestral home.

When Gandhi got there, hundreds of locals and congressional workers were present to pay tribute to Ahmed Patel.
Paying his last respects, Rahul Gandhi tossed some dirt onto Patel’s mortal remains. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi sent flowers to pay her last respects to the former colleague.
Ahmed Patel was buried after the final “namaz” was offered. According to Patel’s wishes, he was buried next to his parents’ graves.
Gujarat Congress President Amit Chavda, Gujarat-led Congress Rajeev Satav, Lok Sabha Congress Leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and former Prime Ministers Kamal Nath and Shankersinh Vaghela were among those who attended the funeral.
Ahmed Patel (71) died at a Gurugram hospital on Wednesday after complications related to COVID-19.
