The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has alleged that Shiv Sena MLA Pratap Sarnaik has received bribes of more than 7 million rupees from the security services provider Topsgrup for allegedly facilitating a 175 million rupee contract with the Regional Development Authority Mumbai Metropolitan (MMRDA). The contract to provide security guards at MMRDA was outsourced to Topsgrup.
Sources said Amit Chandole, director of Vihang Advertising and a close associate of Sarnaik, who was arrested by ED, on Wednesday night, allegedly used to collect 6 lakh rupees each month from Topsgrup on behalf of Sarnaik.
TopsGrup, founded by Rahul Nanda, runs a security service across the country. Chandole also sits on the board of several companies run by Sarnaik and his family.
The ED is investigating a money laundering case against the promoters of Topsgrup, some related parties and Sarnaik. The ED case is based on the FIR of October 28, filed by a former Topsgrup employee, Ramesh Iyer, who has alleged that Topsgrup has misled MMRDA of Rs 175 crore.
Chandole will appear in court today for pretrial detention.
