Shatrughan Sinha opens up about censorship fears at OTT, calls hurt feelings an ‘lame excuse’ for enforcing the moral code – bollywood

Veteran actor Shatrughan Sinha reacted to digital broadcast platforms that were put under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, raising fears of censorship. Sharing an opinion piece on how ‘moral vigilance’ will kill the streaming industry, he called it a ‘sham’.

“This article by @timesofindia on the application of a code of morality in India, with the poor excuse of ‘hurt feelings’ is a sham. In these difficult and pandemic times, it was the OTT platforms that were encouraged and helped us cope while we stayed at home and also de-stressed, ”he wrote on Twitter.

“Creating fear through superstition and religion is the worst way to kill art and creativity. This is a great flourishing industry that has a great future ahead of it, why kill it only for a few with superficial and perverted mentalities? Food for serious thinking! An important read! Jai Hind! ”, He added.

On November 11, a notice from the gazette placed all online streaming platforms under the control of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, raising concerns about the strict censorship of online content. Until now, transmission platforms were under the purview of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

In July, Trade and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal urged OTT platforms to self-regulate, raising concerns about content that “ is sometimes objectionable, contains misinformation, misrepresents our country and our society, and simply not worth watching with family. ” He made this statement at a FICCI Frames event called E-Frames 2020.
