Asian pairs were trading mixed. Hang Seng was trading on a negative bias, while the Shanghai Composite was flat. Equity markets in Japan and South Korea were profitable.
Share market news today | Sensex, Nifty, stock prices LIVE: The national stock benchmarks started the trading session Thursday with gains. S&P BSE Sensex crossed 44,000 points while Nifty 50 was above 12,900. Larger markets were also seen to win. The BSE Smallcap Index was outperforming the benchmark. Volatility plunged 12.9% to close to 20 levels. Among the Sensex winners were Mahindra & Mahindra, L&T, Bajaj Auto and Titan. IndusInd Bank, SBI, TCS were the main obstacles.
On Wednesday, the government sanctioned the merger of Lakshmi Vilas Bank with DBS Bank India, making it the first such bailout by a foreign bank. The merger will take effect on November 27, lifting the moratorium imposed on Lakshmi Vilas Bank and excluding the shares or obligations of the lender that are listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and the National Stock Exchange. The bank’s shares have plunged 50% in seven trading sessions.
