Air India has opened ticket booking for San Francisco from Bangalore as of Wednesday.
Passengers from Bengaluru airport will soon be able to fly nonstop to San Francisco, as India’s national airline Air India announced a direct flight between Bengaluru and San Francisco on Wednesday. The new flight, which will operate twice a week, is scheduled to begin on January 11, 2021.
“This would be the first non-stop flight between Bengaluru and the United States, connecting the world’s two technology hubs: the original Silicon Valley and the Silicon Valley of India,” Bengaluru International Airport Limited (BIAL) said in a statement on Wednesday.
Air India has opened the ticket reservation as of Wednesday. BIAL further said that the first non-stop flight between Bengaluru and San Francisco is an important milestone for Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru and will transform it as the new gateway to India.
“This will greatly help passengers, allowing faster and easier access to cities on the west coast of the United States,” added BIAL.
The new nonstop service is expected to meet demand from corporate customers to travel to San Francisco and adjacent areas in the US.
Air India plans to operate a 238-seat Boeing 777-200 LR aircraft, to serve the largest non-serviced international origin / destination market from Bengaluru Airport.
Bengaluru and San Francisco rank first and second, respectively, among the 45 most digitally advanced cities in the world.
“The new route sets two records: it would be Air India’s longest route at over 14,000 km (8,698 miles) and the longest flight to and from India (over 16 hours),” BIAL said.
