Malappuram:
Flood relief kits provided by Wayanad MP and Congressional Leader Rahul Gandhi to his constituency have been found abandoned in an empty store in Nilambur near Malappuram.
This triggered widespread protests from various quarters, including local residents and left-wing parties.
The kits, including packages of food, clothing and other supplies, were found in the store Tuesday when some people arrived to rent the space.
The DYFI, the youth wing of the ruling CPI-M, organized a protest march against the Congress party and asked its leaders to offer an apology to the people.
Nilambur MLA PV Anwar (supporting independent LDF) on Wednesday sought an investigation by district collector K Gopalakrishnan. He claimed that after the matter came to light, congressional leaders allegedly destroyed other similar actions across the constituency.
“This is not an isolated issue from Nilambur. They (the Congress party) had stored food in many other places to influence voters in the upcoming local body elections. After this came to light, the leaders of Congress they removed or destroyed the food kits from other places, “Anwar told reporters in a video message.
“The District Collector should investigate the matter. The food kits were for people suffering from natural calamity. KPCC President Mullappally Ramachandran should respond,” he said.
Congressional district leaders said they were not aware of the incident and would take action.
State leadership has yet to respond to the matter.
The kits were found on covers with the inscription “MP Wayanad” on them.
