Meghan, the British Duchess of Sussex, revealed that she had a miscarriage in July this year. “I knew, as I hugged my firstborn, that I was losing my second,” he wrote in a powerful article titled “Losses We Share” for the New York Times.
Meghan and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, had their first child, Archie, in May 2019.
In her highly extraordinary essay from a high-profile British royal, Meghan spoke about the experience in detail. Writing about the “excruciating pain” of a miscarriage, she recalled “Sitting on a hospital bed, watching my husband’s heart break as he tried to hold up the broken pieces of mine.”
“In the grief of our loss, my husband and I discovered that in a room of 100 women, 10 to 20 will have suffered a miscarriage,” Meghan wrote, adding that the subject remained taboo and riddled with unwarranted pain.
Her reveal has sparked a great deal of love and support on social media. Twitter has been inundated with messages of solidarity since the article was published today.
I am sending all the love in the world to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, after Meghan so boldly opened up about suffering the miscarriage of her second child earlier this year. This little family of 3 has my heart and is broken for them ???? pic.twitter.com/8uemrsOzk6

My heart was completely broken this morning by reading Meghan Markle’s statement. Such brave and powerful words: Anyone who sees her as more than just an ordinary woman suffering after unimaginable trauma is a psychopath.

Several women came over to thank him for speaking out about the painful experience.
When I had a miscarriage, I remember searching the Internet for articles from women who had been through the same thing. Because reading that you are not alone is useful and comforting. So thanks to Meghan Markle for writing about something so difficult

His followers quickly and deeply criticized any trolling or hate messages, urging others to show compassion.
Anyone who * still * feels the urge to spit vitriol the Meghan Markle way might consider that she is not the problem. You are. Just sit with that possibility and with yourself for a while.

Meghan’s personal article comes as she and her husband wage an increasingly public war with some news outlets for their right to privacy.
She claims Associated Newspapers violated her privacy, data protection rights and copyright by publishing excerpts of correspondence with her father, Thomas, prior to marrying Harry.
Harry and Meghan shocked the British establishment when they announced they were retiring from royal life.
Her withdrawal in March came after reports that she was deeply unhappy with life within the royal family and fed up with media intrusion. Meghan has also spoken about the trolling she faced as a member of the British royal family and the “damaging” effect it had on her mental and emotional health.
