Ex-DSP Davinder Singh: NIA arrests PDP youth wing chief

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested PDP youth wing chairman Waheed ur Rehman Parra on Wednesday in connection with a terrorism case.

Parra was questioned at the agency’s New Delhi headquarters for the past two days after his name emerged in connection with the investigation into the case of suspended Deputy Police Superintendent Davinder Singh. He is the first politician arrested in this case.

PTI quoted the NIA spokesperson as saying: “Today, the NIA arrested Waheed Ur Rehman Parra, the leader of the youth wing of the People’s Democratic Party, in connection with the Naveed Babu-Davinder Singh case for supporting Hizbul Mujahideen in conspiracy with the other defendants “.

Meanwhile, PDP President Mehbooba Mufti called the arrest blackmail and said the youth president was falsely accused.

“BJP milks the illegal scrapping of article 370 in every corner of the country. But when Kashmiris question its repeal, they are locked up and punished. Everyone knows who Davinder Singh worked for. It’s ironic that they have the nerve to blame others, ”he tweeted.

”Waheed has no connection to this man and is being falsely accused. All just to blackmail and intimidate the PDP and other dominant political parties in J&K, ”he added.

He went on to say that Parra was also illegally arrested in 2019. “However, her belief in democracy did not waver and she chose to participate in the DDC elections. It seems that those who place their faith in the power of democracy will win the wrath of a hostile and communal government. I can personally attest to Waheed’s integrity, honesty and character. It is up to the judiciary now to administer justice and ensure that @parawahid is released as soon as possible, ”he tweeted.

Parra was ready to challenge the South Kashmir district development council elections. He has a strong base among the youth of southern Kashmir and was instrumental in organizing many of the party’s public programs.

Suspended Deputy Police Superintendent Davinder Singh was arrested on January 11 while allegedly transporting Hizbul Commander Syed Naveed Mushtaq alias Naveed Babu, lawyer Mohammad Shafi Mir and another militant, Rafi Ahmad Rather, to Jammu in his car. The case was later turned over to the NIA, which carried out several raids in different parts of Kashmir.
