CHANDIGARH: The Haryana Government on Tuesday it said it will seal the borders with Punjab from Nov. 26-27 to prevent farmers from that state from marching to Delhi for its “Delhi Chalo” protest event in the national capital.
This occurs even as the Modi government extended an invitation to Punjab agricultural unions for a second round of talks in Delhi on December 3.
Farmers from Punjab and Haryana plan to march to Delhi following the call of the All India Kisan Sangharsh Coordinating Committee (AIKSCC).
Punjab 30 farm bodies, scheduled to participate in the Delhi turmoil, have decided to head towards Delhi from all possible routes starting Wednesday.
“We do not find the farmers’ ‘Delhi Chalo’ March justified. The situation of law and order remains under control, the police and the administration have planned some strict measures in the state. We appeal to people to avoid drinking Punjab-Haryana border routes and travel on GT roads, as we have planned some strict measures. Similarly, people should avoid crossing the Delhi-Haryana borders on November 26 and 27, ”said the chief minister. Manohar Lal Khattar said.
He also advised farmers to avoid traveling to New Delhi due to the Covid threat.
“I must tell all the farmers that the so-called ‘Delhi Chalo’ given by some teams does not make sense because the three laws that Center enacted are pro-farmer. We will increase the number of mandis and the MSP will continue as before ”, added the CM.
Haryana Police detained large numbers of farm leaders across the state, late Monday night and early Tuesday, as part of pre-trial arrests to ensure law and order and prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Amid all the actions taken by Haryana, agricultural groups in Punjab have not yet made their intention clear about the next round of talks with the Center.
