Chandigarh, November 24

Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh invited former Cabinet Minister Navjot Singh Sidhu to lunch on Tuesday.

The two leaders have treated each other coldly in the past and it might be their first meeting to bury the ax.

The two leaders are expected to discuss state and national politics during the lunch meeting, The chief minister’s media adviser, Raveen Thukral, tweeted.

Sidhu has been in hiding since his resignation from the state cabinet in July last year.

Political observers told IANS that the efforts of the state of Congress in charge, Harish Rawat, have paid off, as he was instrumental in pacifying Sidhu.

He had called Sidhu a “national asset” due to his reputation as a crowd-shooter and hinted at a national role for him in the party.

Both Amarinder Singh and Sidhu shared the stage on November 4 at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on the issue of farmers, where all MLA and Punjab Congress ministers protested against the Union government over recently passed agricultural laws.

Sidhu greeted the Chief Minister before his speech, in which he said that “the Union government wants to suppress the voice of the Chief Minister of Punjab and the MLA and this will not be allowed.”

The Chief Minister reciprocated the gesture and mentioned Sidhu’s name. Sidhu and Amarinder Singh then attacked the Center for favoring businesses over the existing system of ‘mandis’. – With IANS
