In a meeting with senior ministers on the coronavirus crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today detained Manohar Lal Khattar, Haryana’s chief minister, mid-speech and asked him to speak about his plan to tackle Covid instead of present figures.
The prime minister spoke to eight senior ministers via video conference amid an outbreak of Covid cases in these states.
Haryana has seen an average daily increase of 2,000, the Chief Minister said.
While speaking about contact tracing, the prime minister chimed in and said, “Manohar ji, we have the numbers before us. Please tell us your thoughts on how you plan to control the spread of the crown.”
Later, Prime Minister Modi urged senior ministers to share their written comments on their COVID-19 strategy and said that no one could impose any point of view, that everyone has to work together.
Khattar told reporters after the meeting that Haryana was witnessing the third wave of COVID-19 cases.
“We were asked to prepare a list of who will receive the vaccine first. The vaccine will be administered according to category; preference will be given to healthcare workers and then we will provide it to other categories,” said the Chief Minister, adding that he has not yet The criteria for the categories had been decided.
One crore masks will be distributed in the state, the chief minister said, announcing restrictions on gatherings in districts near Delhi, including Gurgaon and Faridabad.
Others at the Prime Minister’s meeting included the Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray, the Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister of Gujarat, Vijay Rupani, the Ashok Gehlot of Rajasthan, the Bhupesh Baghel of Chhattisgarh, the Pinarayi Vijayan of Kerala, and the Chief Minister of Delhi, Arvind Kejriwal.
India’s coronavirus count is approaching 92 lakh with 37,975 new infections reported today. So far there have been 1,34,218 Covid-related deaths and 86,04,955 recovered.
Before the meeting, Prime Minister Modi had issued instructions for a speedy approvals and acquisitions action plan to facilitate the early launch of a vaccination campaign.
