New Delhi: India has launched a new offensive against Pakistan, a sponsor of terrorism, after the Nagrota meeting in Jammu and Kashmir. India has told the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) that it feels pressure to strike back at Pakistan as it continues to support terrorist activities.
At a special meeting on Monday, Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan handed over a dossier to the diplomats of the five permanent members of the UNSC: the United States, France, Britain, Russia and China. The dossier, according to New Delhi, proves Pakistan’s involvement in the foiled terrorist operation in Nagrota.
Last week, four terrorists, hiding and traveling in a truck, were killed in an encounter on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, in Nagrota, outside the city of Jammu. A huge cache of weapons and ammunition was recovered, including 11 AK-47 rifles, 29 grenades and 7.5 kilograms of RDX.
Senior security force officials have said that the terrorists, who are believed to be members of the Jaish-e-Mohammed terror group and are suspected of having infiltrated India from Pakistan through a tunnel in the Line of Control, were planning ‘a great attack’.
In fact, the fear is that the terrorists conspired to attack the upcoming District Development Council elections in J&K, the first major political exercise since the repeal of Section 370 last year.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a high-level meeting after the Nagrota meeting and declared that the four terrorists were conspiring “to wreak great havoc” in Kashmir.
At yesterday’s meeting, India shared with world powers its concerns about “the implications of the incident (Nagrota meeting) on security, diplomacy and the battle against terrorism.”
News agency AFP he quoted a diplomatic source as saying that New Delhi told UNSC envoys that it felt “under pressure” to take action on the infiltration that continues to occur throughout the LoC.
According to news agency AND MEIndia also provided the heads of missions of the UNSC powers with a list of items and ammunition seized from the terrorists indicating that they were of Pakistani origin.
Envoys were informed about how the terrorists entered India through the tunnel that was found in the Samba sector.
“It was noted how the November 19 incident is part of Pakistan’s ongoing terror campaign in Jammu and Kashmir and that in 2020 itself we have seen 200 incidents of terrorist violence and neutralization of 199 terrorists. The details of JeM’s involvement in previous incidents of this type were also shared, “said a source.
The Indian security establishment believes that the four killed terrorists had been sent from Pakistan to carry out the “largest” attack since the Pulwama suicide bombing, in which 40 CRPF members were killed in February 2019.
The Pulwama terror attack was also carried out by the JeM, which is led by one of India’s most wanted terrorists, Masood Azhar.
