Netflix Original Series India Crime of Delhi, directed by Indian-Canadian director Richie Mehta, has won the award for best drama series at the 48th International Emmy Awards.
Told from the perspective of the Delhi Police team investigating the crime that made world news, the series deconstructs the case of the 23-year-old physiotherapy inmate who was kidnapped and gang-raped on a moving bus on the night of 16 December. Actor Shefali Shah played Vartika Chaturvedi, whose character in Crime of Delhi relied on former Delhi Police DCP Chaya Sharma, who solved the brutal gangrape case in 72 hours.
The show, launched in 2019, received massive praise for its sensitive recounting of a horrific crime that shook the entire nation.
The performances of its cast, including Shah, Rasika Dugal, Adil Hussain, and Rajesh Tailang, were especially appreciated.
Hussain took to Twitter and congratulated the entire team on the victory.

Two other Emmy nominations from India include Amazon Prime Video Four more shots, please! and Arjun Mathur for his role in the drama. Made in heaven in the categories of best comedy and actor respectively. Both could not register victories.
While Four more shots, please!, created by Rangita Pritish Nandy, lost to Brazil No Olhando (Nobody is watching), Mathur lost to Billy Barratt, 13, for his role in the Responsible child.
Responsible child it also took home the Best Television Movie / Miniseries award. Directed by Nick Holt, the film follows the story of a 12-year-old boy and his experience with the UK legal system that leads him to trial for murder.
Glenda Jackson, 84, took home the best actress award for her role in Elizabeth is missing.
For sama won the award for best documentary.
The film is narrated and directed by Waad Al-Kateab along with Edward Watts. For sama focuses on Al-Kateab’s journey as a journalist and rebel in the Syrian uprising.
The category US Primetime Program Non-English Languages was tied, with 20th Annual Latin Grammy Awards Y The Queen of the South season two pocketing the honor.
The Short Form Series award was won by #martyisdead from the Czech Republic while Nursing home for 4 year olds from Australia took home the award in the unscripted entertainment category.
From Brazil Orphans of a nation won the highest honor in the Telenovela category.
Last year, Nawazuddin Siddiqui-starrer McMafia won the award for best drama series at the International Emmy Awards.
Actor Richard Kind hosted the ceremony from New York.
