Shefali Shah on Delhi Crime Winning 2020 International Emmy Awards: This Belongs to the Whole Team – Bollywood

“I started screaming like crazy the moment the winner was announced,” says an elated Shefali Shah. Anyone, why not? The fact that Delhi Crime won the award for Best Dramatic Series made the 48th International Emmy Awards 2020 an eventful experience for all who watched the virtual ceremony in India on Monday night.

Shah, who headlined the Richie Mehta-led web show that launched last year on Netflix in March, has yet to accept the win. Your phone has not stopped ringing and vibrating with endless messages. And yes, he couldn’t sleep all night.

“The show alone gave me a new life. It changed a lot for me, ”he continues,“ I mean, I was screaming so much that I think the host (TV, film and stage actor Richard Kind) and Richie Mehta sitting in London heard me. I’m very proud to be a part of the program … Honestly, this win belongs to the whole team. I cannot take responsibility on my own. I can’t wait to celebrate this with all of them. ”The show also stars actors Rajesh Tailang, Rasika Dugal, and Adil Hussain.

The actress finished jumping for joy and hugging her family, who, she shares, had to deal with her because of the emotion.

“Vipul (Amrutlal Shah; filmmaker) and my youngest son (Maurya; 17) didn’t scream like me. Maurya said ‘What are you saying mom?’ And Vipul just left Oh my gosh! And the first call I made was to my oldest son Aryaman (oldest son; 18), who is in the UK for his exams. When I told him about it and he said ‘why didn’t you tell me before? We would have seen it together … I’m so proud of you, ‘”she shares.

Delhi Crime revolving around the horrific 2012 Nirbhaya case sees Shah play a deputy police commissioner with the right to catch the culprits. Along with Delhi Crime, actor Arjun Mathur was nominated for the Best Actor category for his performance in Made In Heaven and the web series Four More Shots Please! was nominated for Best Comedy Series.

“The story had to be taken to the world. I am possessive and partial to the show. For me it has always been a winner. The nomination at the Emmy Awards was a humbling experience because here we are talking about programs that are chosen around the world, ”he shares and adds that at times like these, these news generate a lot of positivity.

Speaking about the difference an international honor makes and the kind of added importance that comes after such a victory, Shah begins by saying that the response around the show has been unprecedented from the start.

“Yes, now it has another label and it makes a difference. But regardless, even if I hadn’t won, the show is a winner for me. One of the first awards we won was at the Asian Academy Creative Awards. We also went to the Sundance Film Festival. So every time you get that kind of recognition, it’s incredible, ”says the National Award-winning actor.

Shah also praises the network for the way it broadened the horizon for everyone. “Delhi Crime fell in 191 countries, so that’s the extent. And then the kind of roles you get here. It’s not just about a hero and a heroine, it’s about the story. Each character has its importance ”, he adds.

Ask her if she thinks this win will turn into more opportunities and the pat is her response: “I’ve always been greedy. I think all actors are hungry for good stories and roles, and it should be that way. So I’m looking forward to an amazing job and I’m sure it will come my way. “
