India Tally crosses 91L with over 37,000 new cases, Prime Minister Modi’s key meeting with states shortly


On Sunday, high-level core teams were dispatched to Uttar Pradesh, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to support them in the response and management of Covid-19. These states have been reporting an increase in the number of active cases, those who are hospitalized or in home isolation under medical supervision, or demonstrating an increase in daily new cases of coronavirus infections, the Union Ministry of Health said.

The prime minister, so far, has held several virtual meetings with states on the coronavirus situation. Leaders who will attend today’s meeting include Delhi’s Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and West Bengal’s Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the sources said.

The central government has also been implementing measures for the rapid and effective distribution of the coronavirus vaccine when it becomes available. Five vaccine candidates are in advanced stages of development in India, of which four are in Phase II / III and one in Phase I / II trials.

India’s Covid-19 case burden topped 91,39,865 with 44,059 coronavirus infections reported in one day, while recoveries jumped to 85,62,641, according to data from the Union Ministry of Health on Monday.
