Amid an increasingly strong cold snap due to continued mercury fall, the local MeT station on Sunday forecast heavy rain in isolated locations in Shimla, Mandi, Kullu, Kangra, Kinnaur, Chamba and Lahaul and Spiti on Wednesday .
The Met office also predicted rain and thunderstorms in the middle hills and rain and snow in the higher hills Monday through Thursday, as a new western disturbance is likely to affect the region.

In view of the snow avalanche warning, the Chamba administration has advised people living at high altitudes in the Chamba district, especially in the Pangi and Bharmour areas, to take precautions during heavy snowfall. The entire region is under a strong cold wave as the minimum temperature dropped even more in some points. The weather remained cloudy with strong cold winds whipping through the region and maximum temperatures during the day also remained three to nine degrees below normal.
The temperature in Chamba was recorded at 17.8 degrees, nine degrees below normal, while Dalhousie and Dharamsala recorded a maximum (maximum) of 9.8 degrees and 13.2 degrees, eight degrees below normal. Daytime temperatures remained six degrees below normal in Hamirpur and Manali, five degrees below normal in Kangra, Mandi and Bilaspur, and four degrees below normal in Sundernagar, Una and Keylong.
Due to dry weather over the past three days, the post-monsoon rain deficit from October 1 to November 22 has increased from 40 percent to 43 percent.
