NEW DELHI: Minister of Railways Piyush Goyal Monday said that the Indian railways will start services from and through Punjab as the farmers unions they have announced the complete lifting of the blockades starting today.
“After the postponement of the movement of farmers on the railways and stations in Punjab from November 23, Indian Railways will begin rail services to and through Punjab,” Goyal tweeted.
“Passengers, farmers and industries will benefit from the elimination of stagnation in train operations,” he added.
Development comes two days later Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh managed to break the mess over the suspension of rail services in the state, with farmers’ unions acceding to his appeal and announcing the complete lifting of the rail blockade as of November 23.
The decision to lift the rail blockade, imposed by farmers in protest against the Center’s laws, was announced by Bharti Kissan Union (Rajewal) in a meeting with the Chief Minister.
India woke up on September 25 to armed farmers across the country against the contentious Agri bills passed in the monsoon session of Parliament.
