Biden Picks Blinken as US Secretary of State as Foreign Policy Team Takes Shape


WILMINGTON: President-elect Joe Biden on Monday he appointed key members of his foreign policy team, making Antony blinken as the next US Secretary of State Jake Sullivan as national security advisor Y Linda Thomas-Greenfield as US ambassador to the UN.
Biden, a Democrat, also chose Alejandro Mayorkas to head the Department of Homeland Security and the former Senator and former Democratic presidential candidate. John kerry be a special presidential envoy for climate.

By elevating Blinken, 58, Biden chose an experienced and trusted aide who will take on much of the burden of helping undo President Donald Trump’s “America First” foreign policy and rebuilding America’s alliances in Europe and other parts of the world.
Thomas-Greenfield held a senior diplomatic post in the Obama administration, while Sullivan was a deputy aide to President Barack Obama and a senior campaign policy advisor to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Mayorkas is a Cuban-American lawyer who served as undersecretary for Homeland Security in the Obama administration.
Biden, who works in his home state of Delaware, has gone ahead with his transition plans despite a lack of cooperation from the current administration.
Trump, a Republican, lost the November 3 vote but has refused to admit defeat and is waging a legal battle to overturn the results and prevent Biden to be sworn in on January 20.
