On Monday, the Maharashtra government made it mandatory for all passengers coming from Delhi NCR, Gujarat, Rajasthan and Goa to obtain a negative certificate to enter the state.
The state government has issued a new set of rules, according to which domestic passengers traveling on trains or flights must carry a negative RT-PCR test report with them before entering the state.
Those arriving by air must show the negative test report to airport officials before boarding the flight. The collection of samples by RT-PCR should have been carried out within 72 hours after the scheduled landing in Maharashtra. Those who do not carry the reports will have to undergo the test at the landing airport. While the airport authorities will handle the tests, passengers will pay for them.
Meanwhile, all passengers traveling to Maharashtra on trains originating from or stopping at stations in Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat or Goa must carry a negative RT-PCR test report no more than 96 hours before arrival in Maharashtra.
Passengers who do not carry the report will be tested for symptoms and body temperature at the train stations going down. Those without symptoms will be able to enter the state, while those showing symptoms will undergo a rapid antigen test.
The rules are relaxed for those traveling by road. Passengers entering the border will be screened for symptoms, including body temperature. Those without symptoms will be allowed entry, while those with symptoms will undergo a rapid antigen test.
The state government circular came hours after the The Supreme Court requested a status report from the governments of Delhi, Gujarat, Maharashtra and Assam on measures taken to control the spread of the infection. The pandemic situation in Delhi has “worsened” and “got out of control” in Gujarat, the Supreme Court had said.
While new cases of coronavirus infections continue to decline, or remain stagnant, in the worst affected states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, on the other hand, Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and even Himachal Pradesh have seen a significant increase in cases.
At least five people died due to every hour on average in Delhi in the last 24 hours, accounting for the largest share of such deaths across the country. PTI reported. Gujarat, on the other hand, reported 1,495 new positive cases of coronavirus, bringing the total infection count to 1,97,693. The largest increase in active cases in the past two weeks has occurred in Rajasthan, an increase of more than 5,600, followed by Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh.
