‘Don’t worry, I’ll get over it and win the matches for ME’: Suryakumar Yadav to Rohit Sharma after India snub

Suryakumar Yadav, number three of the Mumbai fit Indians, who was not chosen for the Australia tour, has been a topic of debate for some time now. Former game greats, cricket experts, and fans have all expressed surprise and disappointment at the same time. Someone like Scott Styris has even offered Suryakumar to change his base from New Zealand and represent the Black Caps.

Suryakumar Yadav was in sublime form during IPL 2020 and, as always, everyone was expecting a call-up from India finally for the right-hander, but the same old story repeated itself. The 30-year-old could not find a place in any of the 3 squads for the 3-month tour of Australia.

Days after being ignored, Suryakumar Yadav played a beautiful undefeated shot of 79 against Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and won the match just for the 5-time champions. His now famous ‘I’m there (Main hu na)’ celebration won the hearts of millions that day. Twitter has erupted singing praises for the Mumbai hitter. Post-match teammates Kieron Pollard had said that Suryakumar Yadav must have been “deeply hurt” after the snub of India.

Now, Rohit Sharma has revealed about the interaction with Suryakumar Yadav, moments after the squads were announced.

Rohit Sharma has said that he could sense Surya was downcast, adding that he himself came and spoke with him. Rohit said Suryakumar approached him and said, “Don’t worry, I’ll get over it and win the matches for ME.”

“We were sitting in our team room and I could feel he was down. But I didn’t go to talk to him. It was he who came up and said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll get over it and win the matches for ME.’

“And when he said that, I also realized that he is going in the right direction not only in terms of IPL but in his career in general. There are many Indian games and their time will come. If you ask me, my philosophy is mind over matter and that’s what works for me, ”Rohit Sharma told PTI.

Words of Wisdom from Rohit Sharma and Sachin Tendulkar

Previously, Suryakumar Yadav in an exclusive interview with Sports Tak had spoken about his interaction with Rohit Sharma after being left out of the India team. Rohit had suggested to Surya that he let his bat speak, while Sachin Tendulkar had texted him and suggested that he keep his good form.

“Rohit Sharma was training with me. After completing the training, he came over and asked me if I was disappointed. I told him I was disappointed because I expected to be chosen for my good performances.”

“Rohit Sharma said that these ups and downs are part of life and suggested that I talk to my bat when I have the ‘bat in my hand’. Sachin Tendulkar also sent me a text message asking me to continue talking to my bat,” he had said. Suryakumar Yadav.
