India coach Ravi Shastri has said that Virat Kohli has made the “right decision” to fly back for the birth of his first child and admitted that the skipper would “obviously” be missed during the test series against Australia. Kohli will miss three tests in the next series against Australia. She was granted paternity leave by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), and as a result, she will participate in the opening tryout of the four-game series.
“I think it is the right decision that he is making. These moments do not come again and again. He has the opportunity, he is coming back and I think he will be happier about it,” Shastri told ABC Sport, quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
“If you look at where India has gone in the last five or six years, no one has the slightest doubt that he is the driving force and the man behind (India’s success). So obviously they would miss him. En adversity comes opportunity. There are many young people in the team and it is an opportunity for them, “he added.
