Cyclone Nivar will bring heavy rains in parts of Tamil Nadu from November 25

A low-pressure belt that is forming over the Bay of Bengal is expected to turn into a cyclonic storm over the next few days, bringing heavy to extremely heavy rains in parts of Tamil Nadu. The cyclone has been named Nivar and is heading towards the north coast of Tamil Nadu. A well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest and adjacent areas to the southeast in the Bay of Bengal is likely to form as a depression within the next 24 hours.

Weather experts believe this would intensify into a cyclonic storm over the next 48 hours and is likely to cross between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram around noon on November 25. The cyclone is expected to bring heavy rains to parts of Tamil Nadu starting November 25. A pre-cyclone alert was issued for Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and fishermen were warned not to venture off the southwestern shores of the Bay and Tamil Nadu until November 25. .

Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Nagapattinam and Karaikal will experience heavy rains on Monday, November 23.

November 24

The next day, Tuesday, the isolated districts of Pudukkottai, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Karaikal, Nagapattinam, Cuddalore, Ariyalur and Perambalu are likely to receive extremely heavy rains.

Isolated locations over the Ramanathapuram, Sivagangai, Tiruchirappalli, Kallakurichi, Villupuram, Puducherry, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Ranipet, Tiruvannamalai, Tirupattur and Vellore districts can experience heavy to very heavy rainfall.

Extremely heavy rains are likely to occur in isolated locations over the Delta, Cuddalore, Kallakurchi, Puducherry, Villupuram, Tiruvannamalai, Chengalpattu, Ariyalur, Perambalur and Karaikal districts on Wednesday.

While the isolated places above Trichy, Namakkal, Karur, Erode, Dharmapuri, Salem, Krishnagiri, Sivagangai, Ramanad, Tirupathur, Ranipet, Vellore, Kancheepuram, Thiruvallur, Chennai and Chengalpattu will likely receive heavy to very heavy rains.
